Factory reset / unbound from current account

Question

My linxdot came when I was overseas and I got someone to help me test it out

However, we did not realise that the device will be bound to the tester's location and reasserting location costs money even before I started earning a single cent.

How can I do a reset so that I can register the linxdot to my own account that is at my location?

Unfortunately, there is no method to ‘reset’ the Hotspot’s location.

Linxdot covers the first location assertion fee, but any reassertions after that, the Hotspot owner will need to pay a ~$10 fee for a location assertion transaction.

In regards to registering your Linxdot Hotspot to your ‘own’ account, you will need initiate a transfer  Hotspot transaction from the original account to your newly created Wallet. Note that the Hotspot will need to have PoC activity in the past ~24 hours in order for this to be valid.

More information about transferring ownership of Hotspots can be found here: https://docs.helium.com/wallets/app-wallet/transfer-hotspot/ .

It is not possible to reset a device's wallet. A miner is cryptographically bound to the wallet it was setup on. You will need the original "tester" to transfer the hotspot to your wallet.

And if they're a few hexes away, honestly, it won't massively matter for witness validity. Once you make the $10 you need, you can then re-assert it to your actual location.

Thanks for the reply, @Erik and @Casey

I wish this was made known to new folks like us e.g. "Please make sure that you are certain that the location you're setting up the miner in, is the permanent location as any change in location will require a fee"

The tester is 1 hex away from me so I guess there is no urgent need to reassert the location.
