Changing from ethernet to wifi

Question

Hi guys

I've got a miner up in the loft...set up done via ethernet cable then connected on WiFi.

When pairing still shows connected via ethernet and WiFi available and when clicking on my wifi network just says forget this connection and let me re-imput the password...any options to change it to WiFi connection only?

The miner keeps dropping the connection, I'm using Virgin broadband and having to reboot both router and miner almost daily .

Thanks for your support

If Ethernet is physically inserted into the device, it will prioritise Ethernet as the source of internet.

But there is a bug in the app where the miner shows as connected to Ethernet even if only Wi-Fi is available and no Ethernet cable is present. In those cases, you can simply ignore it - the miner would be connected to the Wi-Fi network you’ve previously setup.

Thanks Erik, I thought about some bug somewhere...miner keeps dropping off connection but this may be Virginmedia's fault ( wi-fi signal is pretty decent) ,have you heard anything about "fair usage" restrictions from them ? Cheers

We'd always suggest using ethernet where possible. Those wifi routers fail to negotiate which device to give priority to, and a single YouTube video on one device might make the router give no priority to your miner.

The hotspots use very little data, so it definitely shouldn't get rate limited by Virginmedia.

...router is far from the loft, what is your opinion about using a tp link to connect via ethernet? Would the problem still persist or it would be as a proper ethernet connection?

and what TP would you recommend?

Appreciate your support and help

You mean a TP-link wifi extender that gives you an Ethernet out port? Yes, that'll probably be more stable.

...yes exactly, wifi extender instead of long cable!

I've been reading , thou , about issues with port forwarding on those TP link, but it should not matter anymore if I'm correct?

Thanks again

You don't need to port forward anymore - since the upgrade to light gateways.

I would like to know how to switch from wifi to ethernet port too. There's seems to be a problem with my wifi password and I could not complete the setup of the device. Now I would like to switch back to ethernet port but don't know how. Please help.
